St. Lawrence Lowlands
The St. Lawrence Lowlands is the smallest geographical region. A couple of settlers from Europe have adapted to living in humid weather so it wouldn't be very difficult to adapt to this region. However, they would make a lot of new discoveries along the way.
Two of the settlers noticed how the topography of the region had a rolling landscape, with many hills and slopes. It wasn't generally flat or plain which is what they expected. However it was surprising for them to find out that the landscape was mainly created by glacation (glaciers) which meant that there was a lot of debris from the glaciers, in the region. A sinking area was formed in the lowland which the settlers were confused by. They didn't know that this had actually occured around the time of the Ice Age. The environment of this region was to be expected and the settlers could easily adapt. |
The climate of this region tends to be fairly humid, which was great for the settlers. However, during the summer, the Great Lakes lower the temperature and makes the summers much cooler than they're familiar with. Precipitation is usually highest during the months of August-September and lowest around the months of January-February. The region experiences continental climate which means that the winters are usually cold and the summers are mostly hot. This type of weather is one that the settlers could become familiar with, aside from the humidity which they're already familiar with. |
Another settler noticed that there was a variety of vegetation in this region. The soil is very fertile which allowed a lot of plants to grow. Trees such as walnut, maple, hemlock and oak, grew around this region. A lot of this land was very agricultural which provided the settlers with good resources. The settlers didn't know this at the time but this region has the greatest biodiversity. This was the sort of environment that the settlers would begin to get very familiar with, and the vegetation in the area could even be said that it was a lot more fertile than what they were used to living in. |
Over time, new resources from the debris (glacation) could be discovered, which would be a benefit for the settlers. They could use the sedimentary rock in the debris as a resource because it could hold possible value.
