Canadian Shield
The Canadian Shield has climate that is pretty similar to the countries near the Northeast of Europe. There are four settlers that have recently made a journey towards the region. They're from the countries of England, Ireland, Scotland, and Wales. Here are the benefits that they had discovered upon settling here.
Scott McLaughlin, a settler from Scotland, noticed how old the topography looked as they travelled through the region. Little did he know that the region was actually more than 2 billion years old! It was also very large which was great because there was more land to discover. Lakes, rivers, and swamps were formed because of the debris from melting glaciers, which was a benefit for the travelers, because wherever there's water, there's vegetation. The region also held volcanoes but they were extinct and had been deformed to mostly flat plains. Scott found this an ideal environment to live in. |
Alexander Fellington, from England, was the first to notice the climate during the months that they've settled in the region. He noticed that the summers didn't get very hot which meant that they didn't have to provide much clothing that suited the months of the summer. The climate got much colder farther north but the settlers didn't have to worry much because they'd only travelled to the west of the region. The weather never really changed drastically which was another benefit. However, the weather was usually rainy and cold, but this was something that the settlers were very used to. |
Greg Horan, from Ireland, had been looking at the vegetation in the region. It was fairly different than what they had in Europe, mostly because of the trees. There were spruce, fir, and pine trees, as well as lakes, and bogs. The settlers had trouble moving through the region because of the bogs that they had to trudge through. There were mostly coniferous trees in the central area, but further north the forests began to decrease. The settlers found various trees that they had never seen, and had to make there way through the forests of the region which was a little difficult for them. |
Over time the bogs that had formed in the region wouldn't be as troublesome for the settlers to get through, mostly because of the way they had adapted to it. Transportation would mainly be used in rivers and lakes which would cause the bogs to be a form of natural space or maybe even a reserve because of the undisturbance.
