Coastal Plains
The Coastal Plains mostly consists of flat land that includes many marshes and swamps. A settler from New Zealand is used to living in an environment with various mountain ranges and land that isn't very flat at all. This is a story of how the region affected him.
John Ackerly moved throughout the region and saw that it was fairly flat. There weren't many mountain ranges. However, the swamps and marshes in the area do create a form of transportation even though travelling through them might be a little difficult.
Mild climate, and a fair amount of precipitation describes what the climate of this region is usually like. This wouldn't be so hard to live with because John's home country usually dealt with this sort of weather. The months with the most rain would be April, September, and October. There isn't really any unusual or harsh weather, however, the southern region is similar to sub tropical climate and may experience hurricanes.
Most of the vegetation in this region lie in soil that is pretty sandy. The Atlantic plain, which is part of the Coastal plains, has a variety of forests. Unfortunately, the vegetation isn't as watered and green as it is in the Appalachian region, but only because of the flat land. This is something that John would have to live with (which wouldn't be too hard).
Over time, the sub tropical-like climate in the south could create hurricanes that eventually could be quite devastating and danderous even. This would be quite difficult for John to handle if this ever happened.
